Eagles
|
The Bald Eagle is the proud national symbol of the United States. Their habitat covers most of North America, making them uniquely 'our' bird. They are strong, independent, and survivors. Majestic. Bold. Faithful. A symbol of strength and determination. Once a common sight in the United States, their numbers were greatly reduced by the chemical pesticide DDT. The damage was so severe, their numbers shrunk from an estimated half-million birds, to 412 nesting pairs in the 1950's. They were placed on the endangered species list in 1967. DDT was banned in the US in 1972, and Bald Eagles were removed from the Endangered List in 2007, though they are still a protected species. Population studies largely stopped at that time, though there is an estimated 10,000 nesting pairs as of 2015.
It is illegal to possess, sell, or kill a Bald Eagle, but you can still display their majesty in your home or workplace with one of these beautiful beeswax candles! These are crafted one at a time in the rural farmlands of the Piedmont Plateau in Central Maryland, from 100% American beeswax. |
